Richard's Jacking & Sons

House jacking and leveling, auto repair, and full home renovations. All over Maine, and into neighboring states when the pay is right.

Three trades, one phone number

Houses, cars, and the rooms inside them. If it needs lifting, fixing, or rebuilding, it's work Richard does.

House jacking & leveling

When a house sags, settles, or needs room underneath, Richard lifts it and sets it back down level. The house rides on timber cribbing, comes up in small, even lifts, and he'll dig out a basement or crawl space by hand when there's no room for a machine.

  • Sloping or sagging floors
  • Doors and windows that stick
  • Basement and crawl space dig-outs
  • Lifting and leveling

Auto repair

Cars and trucks, fixed by the same hands that level houses. Tell Richard what it's doing, whether that's a noise, a light on the dash, or a pull to one side, and he'll take a look.

  • Brakes and suspension
  • Engine trouble
  • Noises and warning lights
  • Routine maintenance

Home renovation

From one tired room to a whole house, Richard can strip it back and rebuild it himself: framing, hanging sheetrock, taping and mudding, and finishing it smooth.

  • Whole-house and single-room remodels
  • Sheetrock hanging and finishing
  • Framing and repairs
  • Patching damaged walls and ceilings

The basement job

A whole basement dug out by hand, then the house jacked up and set level. One of Richard's sons worked this job and took these photos on site. Click any photo to see it bigger.

1

Carry the house

Before any digging, timber cribbing goes in under the beams so the house stays put while the ground under it comes out.

Cribbing stacked under the beams, carrying the weight of the house.
Dirt piled up beside the cribbing, waiting for its trip out.
2

Dig it out

The whole basement was dug out by hand, all the way back into corners no machine could reach.

Digging down beside the cribbing to open up the basement.
Working back into the tightest corners under the house.
A trench dug out along the framed wall, heading for daylight.
3

Haul it out

Every shovelful left in five-gallon buckets and on a sled. That's a lot of buckets.

The bucket line. Every one of these went out full.
Dug down flat, with the sled ready for the next load.
4

Lift and level

With room to work, the house came up in small, even lifts until it sat level.

Cribbing stacked tight to the beams. The house comes up a little at a time.

Dead level.

The finish line on a jacking job: a house that sits level again.

All over Maine. Past the border too.

Richard travels all around Maine for work. If a job in a neighboring state pays well enough to make the drive worth it, he'll take that one too.
